The transcription pack for Dictate is scheduled but release date is unknown at this point in time because only a small number of users require it.  There are higher priorities that precede transcription unfortunately.  The only way to get transcription higher in the priority list is for those who wants it to write to MacSpeech indicating the need.

Nuance, the owners of the Dragon voice recognition engine are at the top of their game. Voice recognition is not easy and they have dedicated years to perfecting the technology.

So, when a heavyweight like Microsoft comes along and thinks its easy it can go badly wrong. Have a look at the video below when Microsoft did a demo of their voice recognition to the world.

Dave has done an excellent job in his earlier post of quickly informing his customers of the problems experienced by a small number of customers who may have received a bad Data Disc.

He has posted this URL:
http://www.macspeech.com/article_info.php?articles_id=296

to assist affected customers to quickly remedy this problem by obtaining the MacSpeech First Aid application S/W.  We have also posted this link on our own website and have quickly remedied the problem experienced by the few unfortunate customers and whom have contacted us.  It appears that we too may have been unfortunate to have received the tail end of this global Bad Disc issue.

The purpose of this post to clarify a few things:

All affected customers can still obtain their replacement Data Disc from MacSense Australia and not from the USA as recently reported by one Media source - "Faulty discs are being replaced, although the process, which is handled from the US, appears to be slower than some would like".

I can personally assure all Australian and NZ customers that we pride ourselves as a valued added and service oriented distributor.  We WILL take stock from inventory to get an existing customer up and running at the expense of new sales.  We just ask new customers to have patience with us when we run out of stock of this popular product.  It is a fine art trying to balance supply and demands

G'day Alistair

Currently this functionality known as deferred transcription is not available with MacSpeech Dictate. But, it is coming and is coming soon I have heard, soon being before the end of this year.

This is a function which I too am very keen on. I will post here as soon as its available.

Update to the original post.

MacSpeech have recently updated their site with a list of known symptoms of a bad data disk and also a first aid repair download for if you think you have a bad data disk, much better than waiting for a new disk in the post !

Details from here:- http://www.macspeech.com/article_info.php?articles_id=296

Hi John

You might be interested to know that I put the new MacSpeech Dictate through its paces over the weekend.  We have a tough test passage that we have used previously in our research (see our past speech recognition research on our web site).  The result was very impressive.  With the minimum training and no further practice, I achieve 97% accuracy!  That is higher than we have ever achieved with any speech recognition software, Windows or Mac based.

I will write a more detailed review later.

The above is posted with the kind permission of the author.  We have had many positive feedbacks (too many to post actually) here in Australia/NZ as were the same experienced elsewhere.  The negatives (5 in total directly sent to us (all related to bad disks and bugs)) are definitely in the minority and on the bugs that have been widely publicised already.  That's not bad considering we have shipped 668 copies (since late March) and would have shipped more if we did not have constrained supply.

We would welcome all comments (Good or Bad) as that's the only way we will know how to improve this great product.

An article appeared on the MacSpeech website a few weeks ago warning of some issues with some Dictate data disks. Now that we are getting stock in Australia these problems are starting to surface here.

What are the symptoms of a bad data disk?

Typically, once you select on a profile Dictate will just die.

I have had a few customers with this issue, although it is not the fault of ours, the Australian distributor or MacSpeech in the US it is still very annoying for the people who have waited patiently for their copies.

The Australian distributor MacSense are doing an excellent job of very quickly replacing the faulty disks. If you think you have a bad disk contact your supplier directly and they will give you instructions on how to get it replaced.

I will post a video shortly showing how to use your replacement data disk.
